Brandywine River Museum

A museum of American art housed in a converted and restored 19th century gristmill. Contains works by three generations of the Wyeth family, with one gallery devoted to the paintings of Andrew Wyeth. The grounds are landscaped with native plants and wildflowers and a mile long river walk connects the museum to the 18th-century John Chadds House which is open for tours. Admission charge.

Brandywine Battlefield Park

Fifty acre Revolutionary War battlefield park where George Washington's forces were defeated leaving Philadelphia vulnerable to advancing British troops. Includes a visitor center and reproduction of a house used by Washington and Lafayette. Admission charge for buildings.

Chester County Historical Society

Brings the rich history of Chester County to life through permanent and changing exhibits, excellent library, archives, and History Lab. Informative lectures, workshops, family programs, trips and tours. Includes a Museum Shop with gifts and books.

Franklin Mint Museum

Chronicles the history of The Franklin Mint, one of the world's foremost creators of fine collectibles. Exhibits include works by Norman Rockwell and Andrew Wyeth, and collections of porcelain dolls, classic cars, and Star Trek collectibles.

Longwood Gardens

Spectacular gardens that include two lakes, woodlands, wildflowers, a formal rose garden, elaborate fountains, and 3.5 acres of heated greenhouses containing exotic tropical displays. The property was once the country estate of Pierre S. du Pont. Many special events are offered throughout the year, particularly during the warm weather months; these include illuminated fountain displays, fireworks, performances at the Open-Air Theater, and special Christmas displays. The Pierre du Pont home houses an exhibit tracing the 300 year historical and horticultural evolution of Longwood Gardens. Admission charge. Advance reservations may be required for some events.

Nemours Mansion and Gardens

A Louis XVI-style chateau built in 1909-10 on the 300 acre estate of Alfred I. du Pont. The 102 rooms contain European antiques, tapestries, Oriental rugs and paintings dating from the 15th century. The French-style gardens extend a third of a mile from the house. Admission charge. Advance reservations may be required.

Ridley Creek State Park

A 2,600 acre park across from the Old Country property with picnic facilities, visitors center, food service, and trails for hiking, bicycle, and horseback riding. The Tyler Arboretum

650 acres of woods, open fields, and special plant collections. There are many walking trails through the large variety of trees, shrubs, and other plants. There is a collection of rhododendrons, and special habitat gardens for birds and butterflies. Lachford Hall is furnished in the period of the 1860's.

Winterthur Museum, Garden, and Library

The largest and richest collection of decorative arts made or used in The United States between 1640 and 1860 is housed in two buildings. One building contains 175 period rooms and the other building has three exhibition galleries. The galleries include interactive displays that explore the history and development of Early American decorative arts, focusing on social customs, techniques, symbolism and style. The 983-acre estate surrounding the museum includes a 60-acre garden of native and exotic plants complemented by naturally landscape ponds, meadows and woodlands. Admission charge.
